Introducing Weekly Hotel Data!

In addition to our quarterly ‘Monthly Hotel Data’, we now will be posting Weekly Hotel Data for the entire region. This aggregated regional data showcases daily Occupancy % and groups them by Weekdays (Sundays – Thursdays), Weekends (Fridays – Saturdays) and Totals for the Week. This data will be displayed via an active Excel link that is updated bi-weekly, and it is recommended to either look at the entire spreadsheet as a whole or use the Monthly/Weekly filter(s) to select a specific month (for that month’s weekly data) or specific week. For each week, overall weekly data, as well as the individual daily (Sun-Sat) metrics, weekday metrics (Sun – Thurs), and weekend metrics (Fri-Sat) can be reviewed. Weekly Year-over-Year hotel data for 2024 to 2023 is also available in the data table.

As we all work towards increasing the number of visitors and spend into the region, festivals/events are often a catalyst in growing those numbers for both same-day and overnight travellers. Though measuring those same-day travellers is difficult for an entire region, granular hotel data helps provide insights into those overnight visitors by looking at daily Hotel Occupancy %s, ADR $ and RevPAR $. As more festivals/events/other activations are popping up throughout the region to increase visitation, this weekly hotel data is applicable to more than just the accommodation sector, as there are many insights other tourism stakeholders can also gain from this data:

  1. Identify market trends and forecast demand – This information helps stakeholders understand seasonal patterns (demand) and plan marketing campaigns to attract visitors during off-peak times.
  2. Strategic Planning – This data helps prioritize projects that will have the most significant impact on tourism growth – Especially with long-term strategic planning to ensure we are taking advantage of the peak season, building the shoulder and off-peak seasons (if supply allows).
  3. Marketing and Benchmarking – Weekly hotel data allows us to anticipate the busy times to promote accordingly, and measure if the prior week’s festival/event was able to increase overnight demand.

2024 Occupancy % highlights: When overnight hotel occupancies were at their Lowest %s, Highest %s, and the Average YTD from Jan 7 – Nov 9:

Weekly hotel data is a powerful tool for tourism stakeholders, enabling them to make informed decisions, optimize operations, and drive growth. By leveraging this data, stakeholders can enhance their strategies, improve visitor experiences, and contribute to the sustainable development of tourism destinations. The 2024 RTO6 hotel occupancy data exemplifies the importance of this information in shaping the future of tourism.
