As a follow up to our 2023 Tourism Symposium, we are thrilled to have Dakota Brant take the stage once again for a special event and workshop, “TRUTH & RECONCILIATION: CONNECTING THE ‘CALLS TO ACTION’ TO TOURISM”
This event will build off of Dakota’s presentation at our Tourism Symposium earlier this year and will further explore the Final Report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada with a focus on its Guiding Principles and Calls to Action for Truth and Reconciliation, and their connection to the tourism industry. (Don’t worry if you missed the Symposium, there are no prerequisites to attend. All are welcome!).
The day will include a presentation and discussion with Dakota, revisiting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Report. The morning will begin with a hands-on tobacco tying workshop lead by Josh Recollet of Black Creek Community Farm and learn about the significance of the tobacco tie offering in many different contexts. Throughout the day, attendees will participate in small group exercises to explore what putting the Calls to Action, into action for Tourism, could look like. We’ll also hear from Black Creek Pioneer Village about the multi-phase collaborative project, Changing the Narrative: Reconnecting Settler and Indigenous Histories at Black Creek Pioneer Village, that is well underway.
Light refreshments and lunch are included in the ticket price.
The cost to attend is $49.95.
